This 14 Days Uganda Safari is an extensive two-week journey through Uganda, combining the River Nile, Big Five wildlife, chimpanzees, mountain gorillas, golden monkeys, boat safaris, and time to relax on Lake Bunyonyi. The safari begins in Entebbe on the shores of Lake Victoria. It continues east to Jinja, where the Nile begins its long journey from Lake Victoria. While in Jinja, you will explore the Source of the Nile and spend a full day experiencing the river, with white-water rafting and gentler Nile activities available according to your interests. From Jinja, the trip continues north through central Uganda to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary and onwards to Murchison Falls National Park. By tracking rhinos at Ziwa and exploring Murchison Falls wildlife including lions, leopards, elephants and Cape buffaloes creates the opportunity to encounter Uganda’s Big Five. The two nights in Murchison will include game drives and boat cruise along the Nile and a hike to the top of the falls to witness the world’s powerful waterfalls. Continue through western from savanna to Kibale Forest National Park where you will trek habituated chimpanzees and a nature walk in Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary. Travel further south to Queen Elizabeth National Park for another boat safari along the Kazinga Channel famous for harbouring one of the highest concentration of hippos. The following morning explore Queen Elizabeth’s open plains and Ishasha wilderness in search of Tree Climbing lions. Continue to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and trek through the ancient mountain rainforest in search of a habituated mountain gorilla family. Rather than immediately beginning another long transfer after the trek, spend a second night close to the forest and allow the gorilla experience to remain the focus of the day. The safari then continues deeper into southwestern Uganda to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, part of the Virunga Volcanoes that straddle the borders of Uganda, Rwanda and DR Congo. Mgahinga offers an opportunity to encounter the rare golden monkeys in the park’s bamboo and this will be your third distinctive primate encounter after Kibale’s chimpanzees and Bwindi’s mountain gorillas. Spend your final night on the shores of Lake Bunyonyi for relaxation among the terraced highlands and islands of southwestern Uganda. On the morning of day 14, embark on the return journey back to Entebbe, completing a 2 weeks Uganda safari.

After an early breakfast, depart Jinja and travel towards central Uganda, continuing north along the Kampala–Gulu highway. Along the way, stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for a guided rhino tracking experience. You will be accompanied by trained guides gently walking on foot in search of southern white rhinos. Your guides will explain their behaviour, habitat and the conservation efforts aimed at restoring Uganda’s rhinoceros population.
After the rhino encounter, enjoy lunch before continuing towards Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest national park. Enter the park and proceed to the top of Murchison Falls, where the mighty River Nile forces its way through a narrow rocky gorge before plunging approximately 43 metres into the river below. From the viewpoints, experience the thunderous sound, powerful spray and spectacular scenery that make the falls one of Uganda’s mus-visit gem for a keen potographer.
After visiting the falls, continue towards your lodge on the northern bank of the Nile, crossing the river via a new bridge. Arrive at your accommodation, check in and relax after the day’s journey.

Leopards also occur within the park and sightings can be unpredictable. Combined with the southern white rhinos tracked at Ziwa, the wildlife of Murchison creates an opportunity to encounter the animals traditionally associated with the African Big Five during this section of the safari. Return for lunch and later embark on another thrill. The Nile boat safari offers an opportunity to watch hippos and Nile crocodiles in the water. Elephants, buffaloes among other wildlife may appear along the banks to drink or feed. The river is also rich in birdlife including African fish eagle, Egyptian goose, and malachite kingfisher. As you cruise upstream you will reach the viewing area below Murchison Falls and look towards the point where the Nile tumbles into the devil’s cauldron. Your itinerary will also include an opportunity to experience Murchison Falls from above, subject to the most practical sequencing with your lodge location and boat arrangements. At the top, witness the Nile forces its way through a narrow rocky gorge plunging into the channel below creating a trademark rainbow. Experiencing the river from both the boat and the top of the falls reveals two completely different perspectives of the same natural feature. Return to your lodge for your second night at Murchison.

Pant-hoot calls of chimpanzee echo through the forest before you actually see them. Chimpanzees are highly active primates, and their movements and behaviour make tracking them a very thrilling ad exciting experience. Once the chimpanzees are located, spend the permitted viewing period observing their social behaviour and return through the forest back to the lodge for lunch. Later in the afternoon, complement the chimpanzee experience with a guided walk through Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary. Bigodi’s more open wetland and forest-edge environment offers opportunities to look for 8 of Kibale’s 13 primates. There are over 200 birds including the Great blue Turaco. Learn about the relationship between conservation and the Bigodi community. Return to your lodge for your second night in Kibale. Where a morning chimpanzee permit is confirmed, Bigodi can normally be visited in the afternoon. With an afternoon chimpanzee session, the order can be reversed. Those intending to spend more time with chimps may alternatively request the Chimpanzee Habituation Experience, subject to permit availability. Because this is a longer activity, Bigodi may need to be omitted or rescheduled.

Today brings one of the most awaited wildlife experiences of this 14 day Uganda safari itinerary. After an early breakfast, transfer to your designated briefing point with your packed lunch, drinking water and trekking gears and accessories. Attend and listen to the Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers briefing on dos and don’ts of trekking. Then you will be accompanied into the forest in search of your assigned habituated gorilla family. The trek can be physically challenging due to the nature of terrain and gorilla families move freely through the forest, meaning that the duration and difficulty of every trek differs. However, porters are available and recommended. They can carry your daypack and provide valuable assistance on steep or slippery terrain while earning income directly from tourism. Once the gorillas are located, you will spend up to the permitted viewing time observing the family. Watch as gorillas feed, rest, groom, play and interact within their natural rainforest environment. After the encounter, return to your lodge and relax after the trek and enjoy a second night in the Bwindi region.

Best time for this 14 day Uganda safari
The 14 Days Uganda Safari can be enjoyed throughout the year, however. The drier months of June to September and December to February generally offer more favourable conditions for wildlife viewing, gorilla trekking and outdoor Nile River adventures. Uganda’s equatorial climate means that rainfall is possible at any time, especially in the tropical forests of Bwindi and Kibale.
June to September – Dry Season Safari Months
This is one of the most popular periods for a two-week Uganda safari. Generally drier conditions make forest trails more manageable for gorilla trekking in Bwindi, chimpanzee tracking in Kibale and golden monkey trekking in Mgahinga. Wildlife viewing in Murchison Falls and Queen Elizabeth National Parks can also be rewarding as animals gather around water sources and vegetation becomes less dense in some areas.
These months are the peak travel season for most international travellers, so gorilla and chimpanzee permits, as well as preferred safari lodges, should be reserved well in advance.
December to February – Another Excellent Safari Period
December to February is another favourable period for this Uganda grand circuit safari. Conditions are often relatively dry, making it a good time to combine wildlife game drives, boat safaris and primate trekking. Jinja’s Nile adventure activities can also be enjoyed during this period, subject to local water conditions and the operating schedules of activity providers.
March to May and October to November – Greener Landscapes and Fewer Visitors
Uganda’s wetter seasons bring lush vegetation, green landscapes and excellent photographic opportunities, especially in the country’s forested and mountainous regions. These months may appeal to travellers who prefer quieter safari experiences and greater flexibility with accommodation.
However, rainfall can make gorilla and chimpanzee trekking trails muddy and slippery, while some road transfers may take longer. Wildlife viewing remains possible, however, animals can be more dispersed in areas with abundant water and vegetation such as Murchison falls national park.
Which Months Are Best for This Particular Safari?
Given that this 14-day itinerary combines several different environments, there is no single month that guarantees ideal conditions for every activity. June to September and December to February are generally the most convenient choices for travellers seeking a balance of primate trekking, game viewing and outdoor adventure.
The safari remains possible throughout the year, and Firante Gorilla Treks can help you select suitable travel dates based on your interests, preferred accommodation and gorilla permit availability.
What to Expect on Your 14 Days Uganda Safari
The 14 Days Uganda Safari is designed for those who want to experience Uganda’s major wildlife destinations, primate encounters, natural landscapes and adventure activities within a two-week holiday. It combines guided wildlife experiences with scenic road journeys, active forest trekking and moments to relax beside rivers and lakes.
A Varied Safari Across Uganda
This itinerary explores several distinct regions of Uganda. Your journey begins around Lake Victoria and the Source of the Nile in Jinja then continues to the savannah landscapes of Murchison Falls and Queen Elizabeth National Parks.
The western section includes Uganda’s tropical forests, mountainous highlands and the Virunga volcanic region. Lake Bunyonyi offers a relaxing night before the return to Entebbe.
Three Distinctive Primate Experiences
One of the outstanding features of this Uganda safari is the opportunity to track three different primates in their natural habitats.
In Kibale National Park, you will join experienced ranger guides to search for habituated chimpanzees in the tropical forest. In Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, the experience becomes more physically demanding as you trek through dense mountain rainforest to encounter a habituated mountain gorilla family.
Your third primate encounter takes place in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, where golden monkeys inhabit the bamboo forests of the Virunga Mountains.
Each trekking experience differs in terrain, duration and animal behaviour. Wildlife encounters are never guaranteed, although these protected areas offer established guided tracking experiences.
Gorilla and chimpanzee trekking permits are issued by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), which manages Uganda’s national parks and protected wildlife areas. Firante Gorilla Treks will coordinate the required permits as part of your confirmed safari arrangements, subject to availability.
Uganda Big Five Wildlife and Boat Safaris
The 14-day safari includes rhino tracking at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary and game drives in Murchison Falls and Queen Elizabeth National Parks. Together, these destinations provide opportunities to encounter the animals traditionally associated with Africa’s Big Five in Uganda which include lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhinoceros.
You will also enjoy boat safaris along the Nile in Murchison Falls and the Kazinga Channel in Queen Elizabeth National Parks. These excursions offer opportunities to observe hippos, Nile crocodiles, waterbirds and other wildlife from a different perspective.
The Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth is famous for harbourinng tree-climbing lions. Sightings depend on the animals’ movements and prevailing conditions.
Adventure Activities on the Nile River
The Jinja section introduces a more adventurous side of Uganda. Those interested in white-water rafting can choose a professionally guided rafting experience, while those preferring gentler activities may opt for suitable alternatives such as kayaking, tubing or other available Nile excursions.
The choice of activity can be tailored to your interests, physical ability and the arrangements confirmed in your safari quotation.
Trekking Difficulty and Physical Fitness
This safari combines relatively relaxed activities, such as game drives and boat cruises, with more physically demanding experiences.
Gorilla trekking in Bwindi can involve steep slopes, uneven forest trails and muddy conditions. The time required to locate a gorilla family varies, and some treks are considerably more demanding than others.
Chimpanzee and golden monkey trekking also involve walking through natural forest environments. A reasonable level of fitness is recommended, mainly for the mountain gorilla experience. Travellers with mobility concerns should discuss their requirements with Firante Gorilla Treks before confirming the safari.
Road Transfers and Safari Pacing
This is an extensive road safari covering eastern, northern, western and southwestern Uganda. Some transfer days are long, especially the journey from Jinja through Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to Murchison Falls, the transfer from Murchison Falls to Kibale, and the final return from Lake Bunyonyi to Entebbe.
The itinerary balances these journeys with two-night stays in several important destinations, allowing time for wildlife experiences without changing accommodation every day.
After gorilla trekking, you will spend a second night in the Bwindi region rather than immediately undertaking another long transfer. The final night at Lake Bunyonyi also provides an opportunity to relax after nearly two weeks of travel.
Accommodation and Personalised Safari Arrangements
Accommodation is arranged according to your preferred comfort level, travel budget and availability. Firante Gorilla Treks will confirm the selected lodges, meal plans, transport arrangements, trekking permits and included activities in your personalised quotation.
The safari is operated with a private driver-guide, allowing a degree of flexibility during road transfers, sightseeing stops and other activities, while scheduled trekking sessions and park activities remain subject to permits and local arrangements.
Who Is This Safari Best For?
The 14 Days Best of Uganda Safari is suitable for first-time visitors who want a broad introduction to Uganda without limiting their holiday to gorilla trekking alone. It also appeals to wildlife enthusiasts, active travellers, couples, families with eligible older children and visitors interested in combining primates, savannah wildlife and scenic landscapes.
Travellers should be comfortable with several long road journeys and some physically demanding forest activities.
For those seeking a comprehensive Uganda holiday combining the Nile, wildlife, great apes, golden monkeys and highland scenery, this two-week itinerary offers a rewarding introduction to the country’s natural diversity.
